About Course

Explore the inner workings of the brain through the lens of yoga and modern neuroscience in this self-paced course. This course bridges the gap between science and spirituality to deepen your understanding of memory, perception, trauma, and nervous system regulation. You’ll learn how the brain processes experience, how implicit and explicit memory influence behavior, and how yogic tools, such as breathwork, meditation, and intention (Sankalpa), can support healing and integration. Includes five engaging modules, guided practices, printable worksheets, and a completion quiz to reinforce learning.

What Will You Learn?

  • The Brain and Yoga
  • • Understand how brain structure and function influence movement, focus, mood, and meditation.
  • • Apply neuroscience to enhance student learning, motivation, and mind-body integration.
  • Understand basic anatomical systems and their functions
  • Learn terminology used in physiology
  • Explore the connection between breath and anatomy

Course Content

Brain Basics – Key Regions and Functions
This module introduces foundational concepts of the brain relevant to yoga teachers and mental health professionals, highlighting key structures and addressing common misconceptions with updated neuroscience.

  • Lesson 1: Key Brain Regions
  • Lesson 2: Myth-Busting: Limbic System and Triune Brain Model
  • Lesson 3: Yoga Link: The Gunas and the Nervous System
  • Lesson 4: Practice and Reflection: Grounding the Brain-Body Connection
  • Journal

Sensation and Perception
In this module, we explore the difference between sensation and perception, the impact of trauma on sensory processing, and the yogic practice of Pratyahara. Understanding how sensory information travels through the nervous system and is interpreted by the mind offers deep insights into healing, awareness, and self-regulation.

Memory – Explicit and Implicit

Nervous System Regulation
The nervous system plays a crucial role in how we experience safety, stress, and resilience. This module explores the balance between the sympathetic and parasympathetic systems, introduces Polyvagal Theory, and highlights how yoga practices directly support nervous system regulation and vagal tone.

Integration and the Yogic Mind
In this final module, we integrate the insights of neuroscience and yogic philosophy to understand how the brain filters experiences, how mental patterns distort perception, and how yoga supports integration and clarity. Through reflection, intention, and practice, we cultivate a more resilient and centered mind.
